The 27th annual Terry Casey Cup, an annual high school hockey tournament put on here in Great Falls, is this weekend. Teams from around the state, region, and part of Canada come in to play.
The tournament started in 1990 in honor of Great Falls High alumnus Terry Casey. Casey was a all star Quarterback at Great Falls High and also was a great hockey player. He was a three time letter winner as a Bison.
After high school, he was offered a hockey scholarship to the University of North Dakota. Casey played in 88 games for North Dakota in his time there. He was named an all star in the 1964-65 season then was named captain of the team the following season. In the final year of his college career, he was named as a first team All-American, and named to be on the All- Western team.
After college, Casey made the US national team and was named the captain of the 1968 US men’s Olympic team. Unfortunately, Terry Casey died in July of 1968 in a car accident. He did not get to play in the Olympics.
Teams from Calgary, Alberta Canada, Boise, Idaho, Missoula and Sidney, Montana will be attending this tournament. Calgary is the defending Champion of the Terry Casey Cup.
