One Eighty: The Story

For as long as I can remember, I’ve taken the way I dress very seriously. Growing up, I had one day a week to dress myself. Every Sunday, I giggled at the thought of getting to wear whatever I wanted, and I usually chose to put all my favorite pieces on at the same time. A floral top with a polka dotted skirt and striped sweater flew out of my closet and on to my body. Sunday was my only day to decide, which was a good thing because I would probably have embarrassed my family if I dressed myself everyday. I had one day.
So imagine my excitement when I grew to be nine or ten, and I could dress myself everyday. I could wear my favorite bell-bottom jeans fours times a week if I wanted to. I could layer one shirt on another or tie a scarf around my head. The possibilities were endless.
Looking back, I realize that my choices were not always polished or flattering, but I had freedom and that was all that mattered.
Now, I take that freedom for all it’s worth. There’s not a day that I walk out of my house wearing something lazy or sloppy. I love the idea of creating a new outfit everyday. For me, my closet is like a puzzle with countless solutions, even though some are better than others.
It comes down to the fact that I love clothingm and the fact that everyone has his own personal style excites me. I just happen to put a lot of effort into my own.
There are 365 days a year, and if I take out all the days I don’t leave the house or repeat an outfit, there are even less. To me one hundred and eighty of those days count.
We have one hundred and eighty days to establish our styles. It may seem like a lot, but I want to make every one count. School days offer me a chance to take risks and earn feedback from my classmates.
This blog is dedicated to those one hundred and eighty days and to every student’s personal style. I have my style, what’s yours?
