Jerimey Franks|Cartoonist With a Pentagon review due in December, many Gay Rights Activists impaitently await the repealing of the controversial  Don’t Ask Don’t Tell Policy set up for the US Military by the Clinton Administration. They may be in luck. Congress may vote as early as Thursday over the law after Lawmakers and the White House have possibly reached a compromise on the issue. In the agreement, an amendment will be added to the defense bill, which was used last year to pass the country’s first civil rights law for gays and lesbians.

The Iraq War Veteran, Rep. Patrick Murphy is expected to introduce this law today. Democrats vow to bring the issue up to vote by Thursday and Republicans still vow to oppose the lift of this measure which has discharge more than 14,000 gays and lesbians from active service since 1994.

The measure of lifting this ban has gain ground due to nearing midterm elections. With the many recent oustings of Democrat Representatives, many hope to keep their positions by pleasing the gay population. But many conservative Democrats will not vote for the opposing of this bill if the military is not one-hundred percent on board for any changes to current policies.

If this measure were to pass, gays and lesbians would be able to openly serve without the fear of being discharge from the US military. However, tehy would still have to wait for the completion of the Pentagon’s nine month study and with joint approval from the President and Sectretary of Defense.
