The camp at the Missoula County Court House has been fully removed as of yesterday. This group was part of the whole OWS movement, but then they also wanted to show the unaddressed issues of homelessness. The group was small and nonthreatening at about a dozen members. Less than three of these members actually had homes and planned to camp out to make a statement. The rest of the members camped out of necessity and would have slept somewhere else in city had they not found this peculiar arrangement on the Court House lawn.

On the morning of Jan. 19, select students from Great Falls Public Schools automotive program received a donation of over $2,500 of parts from City Chevrolet. The donation was to aid in the restoration of a 1965 Ford Mustang, which is part of a contest the automotive program students are participating in, and were notified they had won on Dec. 20. Bob Oakland of City Chevrolet said, “We are pleased to be a part of this program. It’s a great opportunity for students in the community to learn about auto mechanics.” The car dealership donated tires and wheels, a sound system, a headliner and seat coverings. “We really appreciate the support,” Said the project advisor, Joe Wilkins. “It’s been overwhelming.”

The students participating in the project come from Great Falls High, C.M. Russell High School and Paris Gibson Education Center. For some, winning the contest was a surprise. “We’re such a small school, it was great that we could compete with a large high school and a community college in this competition, said Brandi McCoy, a senior at Paris. The other schools the group competed with were a high school in Monterey, California and Kansas City Community College in Kansas City, Kansas.“It feels great to get these donations and be able to put everything on the car,” said Jessie Leavitt, a senior at Great Falls High.

In addition to numerous donations from businesses around the area, all of the students participating in the class have received a $10,000 scholarship to Ohio Technical College for taking first prize in the contest.

Today is former KRTV chief forecaster Fred Pfeiffer’s first day of retirement after his last 10:00 news show last night. Pfeiffer has been with KRTV for 15 years, and the city has come to love him and his forecasts. There was a retirement party earlier this week, where many made an appearance to remember the past and look on to the future. Even the mayor of the city went and officially honored Pfeiffer at his retirement celebration. “I have so many people who say I feel like you’re part of my family or a guest in their home.” Pfeiffer will be missed by many.

“I was very surprised and disappointed to hear the allegations, I don’t know if they are true, but GFH has always had a reputation for being student friendly,” said Trustee Jan Cahill when asked about his reaction to the recent hazing allegations surrounding GFH students and employees.
On Nov. 10, Great Falls Public School administrators learned from the Great Falls Police Department about an alleged hazing incident involving potential sexual assault. An investigation by the GFPD into the incident commenced. After interviewing all persons involved, the GFPD charged senior Alex Mauricio Botina-Roehm with sexual intercourse without consent and two counts of sexual assault and arrested him on Nov. 15.
“Botina-Roehm was handcuffed and transported to Cascade County Regional Jail,’’ said Deputy Corey Reeves, “there was enough probable cause to arrest him and bring him to jail.” After posting bail, he was released and on Dec. 8, Botina-Roehm appeared in court, pleading innocent to all charges. His trial has been scheduled for Mar. 26, 2012. Botina-Roehm’s charges led to a restraining order against him, which forbid him to approach within 1500 feet of Great Falls High School and the alleged victim. Lawyer Alex Evans and Cascade County Attorney John Parker could not be reached to comment on the restraining order or liability to other students and educators.
Botina-Roehm now attends the College of Technology in order to stay on track for graduation. He remains an enrolled senior at GFH. His suspension will be reviewed after trial.
“Everything was normal to me,” said senior Destin Wassmann, “I never felt uncomfortable.” To many football players, the locker room was just a place to talk and hang out, yet others chose to leave and shower at home. “It was something I didn’t want to be a part of—just the screwing around,” said senior Sam Wingerter. Players agree the horseplay happened occasionally.
“It’s just screwing around; it’s not sexual,” said junior Colter Posey.
The alleged hazing behavior involved an activity known as “power gobbling,” the placement of the forearm between the victim’s legs from behind and lifting upward. The activity causes pain in the victim’s groin. This alleged frequent practice of Botina-Roehm led the victim to tell his mother about the hazing and also about an incident in which Botina-Roehm placed his thumb into the victim’s rectum.
The investigation against Botina-Roehm uncovered emails between GFH employees revealing their knowledge of “power gobbling” before the Botina-Roehm incident was reported to the police. The GFPS administration initiated an investigation to find out what GFH employees knew before the incident was reported. “Before anything moves forward the report has to be reviewed,” said Principal Dr. Fred Anderson.
However, the investigation focuses on whether or not the situation was handled appropriately. “I can’t begin to speculate about what disciplinary measures will be taken toward district employees until we receive the report,” said assistant superintendent Tom Moore.
“No rock has been left unturned,” said Anderson. All rumors surrounding the incident have been looked into. The investigation conducted by an independent consultant from Missoula was completed last week. The administrators received the investigator’s report, but the findings are not yet public. “The correct way to handle a situation like this one is not something that is very black and white,” said Anderson. The situation raises concerns of both reporting the incident and the privacy of the students involved.
The school district potentially faces civil liability in a case like this one. “There is always that possibility,” said Moore on whether or not the school district could be sued. He added, “That will not influence the administration’s decisions about disciplining the employees involved.”
“I would hope we’ve learned from this incident, and factual parts of this incident will make certain that rules and policies are in place to keep students safe” said Cahill though he could not comment on the liability of the school district at this time.

Do you remember going to the park with your friends when you were little? Mrs. Senger’s connections group is doing a community service project so that other kids can get a new park in Great Falls to go to.
Pepsi refresh is going to give someone 50,000 for ideas to make their community a better place. Mrs. Senger and her connections group are part of this to get Great Falls a new park because, it was deemed unsafe to the children around.

“If everyone keeps voting each day i think we could win” Senger said. Although, Mrs. Senger’s biggest competition is the Virtual I have a dream project which has been in the lead since the beginning of the competition. The lead is about an online website that would enable the children’s learning capability.

I asked Mrs. Senger were the idea for the park came from she replied, ”students wanted to choose an idea they felt would make a difference.” The students choose to help the parents and the citizens of the community. Mrs. Senger did make an entry in the Competition and is helping out a lot with the process to making it so the neighborhood will have a park to replace the other one. The students in Mrs. Senger’s class will get extra credit every time they get online, vote, and leave a comment

This is a great way to get a new park in Great Falls and and give the kids in the surrounding areas a place to play. I hope that they win the competition because, since the skyline school was taken out and the park has now been taken out for the safety of the kids. There is just an open field that they are planing to put in more houses. Around some parts of Great Falls especially around Great Falls High there are a lot of parks and you are probably wondering why we would need even more of them. Around Skyline there are not as many parks and the kids around could really use a fun place to go to after school with friends or for little kids to go with their parents.

This is something that the neighborhood could really use to make it so there are not just filled with house after house. If you have been here for a while then you might have noticed that the old wooden playgrounds have been removed because, they were not a good places for kids. They can get splinters and they were easy for kids to fall off if they were not careful and for a kid they are not just focusing on weather or not something is safe they just want to have fun.I hope that everyone will keep voting form now until the end of November so that we can get a new safe park by Skyline. refresheverything.com

It was clear from the sea of pink that, “Pack the Place in Pink” was a success. There were hundreds of students that showed up to support their school and support breast cancer awareness fundraising. “I thought it was a great turn out. The school was so supportive. It was amazing.” The volleyball coach, Michelle Preston, said.

Many of the students, even the volleyball players, realized that this crosstown was for a bigger cause. “Although it’s always great to win a crosstown game, the girls knew what they were doing. They were there to play a great game and raise a lot of money.” Preston continued.

Throughout Montana, there are several women who have gotten breast cancer, and CMR and Great Falls High School realized they should be supportive about the funding of breast cancer awareness. Preston explained, “Many women throughout the community have gotten breast cancer. More than a couple of the players know someone who has been affected.”

The volleyball team raised $3,776 and had sold 200 shirts. The money was donated to Susan G. Komen For the Cure and to local Montana women.

Google, a pioneer in electronic development, has continued to give a stellar performance in the technological world. With new cell phones, computers, and a search engine to explore the world wide web, this company has made it very clear that they know what the public craves. Not to mention, the power that this corporation has manifested is so vast that it even agitated the entire government of China.
A generation of wireless communications and social networking has clearly taken the notice by the staff at Google. Perhaps, this is why they recently launched their still developing social network page, Google+. The initiative of the new website is relatively similar to those of Facebook and Myspace, but incorporates new ideas that may hopefully intrigue users into exchanging their old personal pages with this new one, like the Google Sparks tool.
At first, the original idea was to have people be personally invited by others in order to use it, which may have created some bitter feeling from the get-go. Tyler Waite was amongst these people, “I think that a social networking site where you have to get invited to is pointless, because the entire purpose to using a website like that is to socialize with a lot of people. With inviting, it seems everything would be cliché and be more of a popularity contest, if anything.”
However, as of September, Google+ has been made available to the public. Currently, it seems that the idea is struggling to stick with the young adults of the internet, but despite the low visitor rate (compared to that of Facebook), some individuals still believe that it just needs time to develop.
“It’s too new, but I honestly believe it will replace Facebook sometime,” says Waite. As eager consumers of America, Google+ and future products will be greatly anticipated in the world of technology.

Endeavour, the second to last space shuttle launches for NASA’s space shuttle program made its journey to space on last Monday at 8:56a.m.
The rocket was scheduled to launch at 3:47p.m. on Apr. 29, however, the entire mission was quickly shut down due to faults in the auxiliary power unit prior to the take off. A technical error was found in the microwave-sized box that routes electricity to the rocket’s heaters using a variety of switches.
In order to find what repairs needed to be made, NASA technicians removed the box and evaluated the data. It was expected to be pushed back to May 12 at the very least, but due to the dire need for a safe and dependable experience, the program has been postponed. At NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, Space Shuttle Program Launch Integration Manager Mike Moses and Shuttle Launch Director Mike Leinback made the long awaited announcement stating that the ship will launch at 8:56a.m. on May 16.
“We’ve had only two problems throughout the one hundred thirty four flights in history, so the launch being postponed isn’t really a bad thing. NASA needs to be one hundred percent sure that there isn’t going to be any problems and that no mistakes are made,” says Jonathan Logan, a Foundations of Science teacher who was almost selected to be part of the Teachers in Space program in 1984.
Because of the malfunction in the space craft, President Obama’s plan to attend the launch was dropped. Nonetheless, he still managed to pay a visit to the Endeavour crew at the Kennedy Space Center.
The space crew consists of pilot Greg H. Johnson, mission specialists Michael Fincke, Andrew Feustel, Greg Chamitoff, Italian astronaut Roberto Vittori, and commander Mark Kelly, husband of White House Representative Gabrielle Giffords. The couple honors their marriage by wearing wedding rings around their necks.
Taipei News reported NASA spokesman Kyle Herring announced: “There is still some uncertainty because we have to get past all the work. We’ll regroup on Monday and see how far they’ve gotten, but the May 16 launch date looks pretty good.”
To some, this is just an insignificant event happening during their busy lives, but to others, this is news of the century. Mr. Logan was very fervent about the subject, “I’ve watched every launch for the last thirty years. It’s really cool to know that there are real space people up there and they are not aliens, they are our people. It’s sad because it’s the closing stages of an awesome era and we have to watch these people’s revolutionary careers come to an end.”
He said that American space exploration would most likely come to a depressing stop, with unimpressive results for the country. “Now, if we ever want an American astronaut in space, he or she will probably have to take a Chinese or Russian shuttle up to the space station. It wouldn’t be our missions anymore and some radical measure of achievement. If we want to avoid that, it all comes down to if we have what it takes to start a new program.”
Space.com reports that four private investors have now agreed to fund the space program with nearly $269.3 million for “development of new commercial space ships and rockets capable of launching astronauts on trips to the International Space Station”. With the government funding (that NASA was so very well supported on) coming to an end, the entire program could become an inexplicable part of the human civilization’s development. In other words, the program will be funded by private investors, which could possibly mean that certain regulations must be met. For example, the investors could want seclusion from the network and press.
With changes in the structure of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration program, it’s quite easy to understand why supporters would be upset. Ever since the very first launch of Columbia in 1981, the space program has attracted the interest of millions of people. The final flights of the Endeavour and Altantis in July will end a an era of space exploration.

Coming as some of the best news America has heard in a while, President Obama announced Sunday that Osama Bin Laden has been killed by a team of covert US military.
Hiding in a small compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, Bin Laden was killed in a firefight by American troops. Shortly after the body had been seized, DNA testing compared to his sister confirmed that the body was indeed that of Bin Laden.
Following the news of his death, crowds gathered outside of the White House cheering, “USA! USA!” The speech which President Obama was to read was delayed over an hour, so that it could be worded exactly the right way. Finally at around 11:30 pm est, Obama announced and confirmed to the American people that indeed Osama Bin Laden was dead.
President Obama stated in his speech, “The death of Bin Laden marks the most significant achievement to date in our nation’s effort to defeat Al Qaeda.”

The financial situations of 70 million PlayStation3 subscribers could potentially be at risk due to an unauthorized intrusion into the gaming system’s network.

As of April 17, certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user information was accessed by alien imposters, panicking the multi-million dollar company and its consumers. Right now, it is unclear if users’ credit card information was accessed, but Sony advises users that linked their cards to the gaming network to monitor their bank statement for any odd activity.

The company sent out statements to gamers saying, “If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, out of an abundance of caution we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained.”

Justin Coriddi, an upset PlayStation owner, stated in an interview with CNN News, “Sony has been really bad at handling it. I’ve been getting all the information on it from other sources.” On Sony’s blog, a large amount of displeased comments littered the company website. “Over the weekend, their only statement was that they were looking into the issue still. So that was pretty much just saying nothing,” said Coriddi.
