The Lion's Roar

Swedish folk band, First Aid Kit, consisting of sisters, Johanna Söderberg and Klara Söderberg recently caught the eyes’ of the American public and created a following that sparked their charting of the album at ninety on the Billboard 200.

Their newly released second album, “The Lion’s Roar”, was released January 23, 2012 and since has charted number one in their homeland of Sweden, and continues to spread throughout countries with their tour across the United Kingdom. The album has received positive reception from newspaper, The Gaurdian, and from website, Metacritic, with a rating of 81/100.

The creation of their second album as a band came with the help of Bright Eyes’ frontman Conor Oberst and The Felice Brothers, a country rock band that hails from New York. “The Lion’s Roar” contained two singles, “Emmylou” and “Lion’s Roar”, along with many other beautiful melodies. In my opinion, “Lion’s Roar” is my favorite single, because in a sense it is haunting and spooky, but “Emmylou” came in second due to its western taste and folk mixture.

Normally I don’t craze the genre of country, however, recently with the release of Ryan Adams thirteenth studio album, “Ashes & Fire”, I’ve had an interest with the less mainstream alternative country and folk. The album, “The Lion’s Roar”, upholds many traditional country styles such as, slide guitars and heavy chords, however, also breaks in with a folk background with influences from folk band, Fleet Foxes. The album as a whole is great for the population whom takes a liking in sweet country coos and haunting instrumentals, nonetheless, it is an album to sample as starting the 2012 year with new styles of folk-country.
